1. Buffalo Harbor State Park

Located just fifteen minutes down the river from Collins Marine, this park is home to a 1,000 slip marina, a restaurant, boat launches, personal watercraft launches, fish cleaning station, restrooms, and a beach for strolling and sunbathing. It is perfectly nestled in the northwest corner of Lake Erie and offers spectacular views of both the City skyline and lake. Boaters are also provided with a dredged yacht basin for comfortable overnight anchoring opportunities, scenic picnic areas, and other amenities such as restrooms and vending machines.

Opened in 2015, the Buffalo Harbor State Park is the first state park in the City of Buffalo. It may look out of place in Western New York, but this park only provides more reason to visit New York’s second-largest city. At the park, you can also enjoy sunbathing, strolling along the beach and a playground for children. Although you can take in the sun-rays along the beach, be aware that swimming is not permitted at the park.

With so many paths to travel, you’ll be sure to find something new to enjoy each time you stroll through the park. You truly don’t have to travel far to take in the views of beautiful Western New York water. 2. Beaver Island State Park

Situated on Grand Island in the upper Niagara River near Tonawanda this state park provides ample access to both Lake Erie and the Niagara River. Just across the river from Collins Marine, Beaver Island State park is in the perfect location if you’re stopping in to buy a watercraft this summer. Anchor your boat to take advantage of its sandy beach swimming area, boat ramps, day-use docks for fishing boats up to 30 feet in length, nature trails, picnic areas with grills and tables, playgrounds for children’s activities and much more!

There is a ton of fun to be had at Beaver Island State Park! The 950 acre park has a half-mile sandy beach for swimming, multiple canoe/kayak launches, bike and nature trails, a nature center, multiple playgrounds, picnic areas, athletic fields, horseshoe pits, an 18 hole championship disc golf course, an 18-hole championship golf course. Plenty to do for a whole day out with the family!

Also located in the park is the River Lea house and museum, home to the Grand Island Historical Society. The house was built by William Cleveland Allen, cousin to Grover Cleveland who visited the family farm on several occasions.  

 

3. Wilkeson Pointe Park

Enjoy beautiful water views and sunsets at this 15-acre public space at the Outer Harbor. You can also stroll along the water, bike and kayak rentals presented by Independent Health, and enjoy a snack or beverage at the Consumer's 225 Beer Garden!

Buffalo’s Wilkeson Pointe, along Buffalo’s Outer Harbor is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city without getting too far off the grid. A short drive over the Skyway, or a ride out on the water to the shores of Lake Erie will lead you to this natural landscape that offers visitors tons of opportunities to explore and unwind on the waterfront.

Crack a drink and lounge in a comfy Adirondack chair or hammock at Wilkeson’s beachside beer garden or rent a bike and cruise the winding bike paths that connect Wilkeson Pointe to the 1833 Buffalo Lighthouse! This iconic Buffalo Lighthouse was first lit in 1833 and served until 1914 and was the second of four lights marking the main entrance to Buffalo Harbor. Open weekends, the site offers informational and historic signs and artifact displays, scenic views and lighthouse tower tours by appointment.

Wilkeson Pointe also offers beach volleyball, kayak rentals, and free wellness classes complete with yoga, pilates and more. At the end of the day, hunker down for one of the best Western New York sunsets you can find in the Buffalo area!
